What is ketosis dieting all about?

Well, this was a question I got asked by a very good friend of mine. I knew that ketosis had something to do with dieting, but wasn’t sure what the word actually meant. So I did a little bit of research and - voila – now I know what it is and want to share my knowledge with you.

This diet was developed by Herman Tarnower in the 1970’s, but is very similar to The Zone Diet (to play on Shakespeare, “a diet by any other name still has no sweets…”). It is also sometimes referred to as the Scarsdale medical diet as Mr Tarnower is a doctor
1 - The Atkins Diet

The Atkins diet is a low-carb diet, and operates on the logic that when you deprive your body of carbs, you force it to start a process called lipolysis/ketosis, when it starts to burn fat. The diet is therefore also known asa ketosis diet.
