From an early age on we are told always to be patient and we keep on telling ourselves to be patient and wait even when we are adults. That’s probably because being impatient is just something human!
That’s also the reason why crash diets have been booming in recent years. People want a super-model-body and they want it NOW, not tomorrow! But that’s not how it works.
Weight loss is an especially big challenge for people who are really impatient. If you force yourself to change your habits, your attitudes to things and your behaviour from one day to the next you are bound to fail.
Losing a couple of pounds is a project that you have to try to fulfil step by step. This step by step thinking is crucial if you really want to reach your weight loss goals. Get used to it!
Eating habits don’t just change over night. They have been created over the years and so “wrong” habits have to be changed to the “right” habits by continuous learning. No need to hurry! Take it easy and change your habits step by step. Enjoy every step of the way and you can be sure that you will finally apply what you learn.
But where to get started? After starting to deal with the topic of healthy eating and lifestyle many of us will find that there are lots of things they do on a daily and weekly basis that shouldn’t be that way.
Start with one single point – the one habit that contributes a lot to your current weight. Most of you will immediately know what I am talking about. We are not stupid (just human) and we know that our craving for chocolate that we are fulfilling on a daily basis has to be stopped but we tend to ignore it and to put it aside until it is too late.
So if you know that your sweet tooth has contributed to your current weight a lot try to reduce your chocolate consumption. Don’t cut out chocolate completely right away! You for sure won’t be able to go through with that. Rather start reducing your chocolate consumption step by step – this will work!
Every person is different so your first steps to reach your diet goals will be completely different: for some people it will be to drink the required amount of water, to take the stairs instead of the elevator at work, to take the bicycle to work two times a week, to not eat Chinese take away anymore, to get a diet recipe cook book and finally learn how to cook,….
All of these are little steps will immediately lead you into the right direction and at some point they will make you reach your diet goal that you specified before. True, with this method the journey to weight loss will take longer, but the risk that you will abandon your goal is reduced tremendously. Patience pays off, that’s for sure!
So think about your current habits. Which one do you need to change the most badly? Set yourself a small goal concerning this point and try to reach it. You will be amazed by how quickly all these little goals add up and will change your lifestyle.
What’s important when dieting: learn to listen to your body! Many of us have forgotten how to do that, but if you listen your body will answer and let you know when it is time to take the next step into your new slimmer life.
