To know where you are going you must first know where you are coming from. If I were you I would fill out the current status assessment sheet even before I’d formulate my diet goal as described in the article before. You can find detailed instruction as to how to create this sheet here.

The assessment sheet will give you more, probably surprising insights into your relationship with food and your reasons for dieting. Especially people who know that their weight is too high often tend to not really reflect on their eating habits.

After filling out this sheet while really thinking about each answer in detail you will know a lot more about yourself and may also better be able to predict the obstacles you may encounter on your weight loss journey. It is a good exercise and so I’d really advise you to do it! Of course this sheet should go into your diet success folder.

Keep a weekly food list

Many of you may have wondered why I have addressed the issue of drinking before the issue of eating when this series of articles is all about losing weight. Let me tell you that first of all you have to stop thinking about food in a negative way, seeing food as the enemy!

You have to eat and you should eat: slowly and intentionally! Food is important and not starving, but eating will finally lead you to your weight loss success.

The weekly list is a dieting tool that will help you to measure and control your success and to motivate you for the weeks to come. This list is a tool that you will need as support until at some point in time it won’t be necessary anymore. The list will accompany you on your journey to weight loss. It will give you a better feeling what is good for your body and what is not.

Write down everything you eat and drink during the week. Give yourself a point for everything you did to support your weight loss goal. At the end of the week count your points and compare them to the points of the last week. This will serve as a motivational tool.
