Structure and support system helps new mom losing weight
Posted January 14th, 2007 by delilah“I got really big after I gave birth to my first baby. I could barely find time to clean the house, much less exercise! I bought a video I used about ten times before giving up. Seemed like five minutes into the warm ups the baby would wake up, and it’s not like I could ignore my daughter.
I realized if I was serious about exercising, it had to be away from the house—in a class I paid for, so I’d feel compelled to attend. The first sessions were really hard though. I wasn’t having fun, and it didn’t seem “worth” the trouble of finding a baby sitter, making dinner early, etc. I went, but half heartedly.
So I invited friends I made from my Lamaze group to take the class with me. We were really close and always talked about how we should get together. So why not hit two birds with one stone? It was more fun that way. We’d work out, then have coffee and talk about mommy before going home. None of us ever missed a session, and after 10 months, I look better than I did before I got pregnant.” – Liz, (CA).
