Fruit Salad – yummy!

I simply love fruits of all kinds. The more exotic the better! Meanwhile I have become an expert on delicious fruit salads. It simply gives me such a boost of energy when I get up in the morning and eat a bowl of fruit salad.

Fruit salad has a long tradition of being used as a desert or as an appetizer all around the world. It is also called Macedonia – this word for fruit salad became popular in the 18th century I read. And there are thousands of different fruit out there that can be used to make such a delicious meal.

So what is the good thing about fruit salad? (do you want to answer)

Correct, it is made of fruit. And fruit are an important source of vitamins and enzymes giving us energy and making us healthy. Vitamins, antioxidants and minerals contained in fruit are crucial for our body and lead to a feeling of wellbeing. As nutrients fruit are really important and should be a major part of your diet.

There are different kinds of fruit to be found all over the world. In general fruit can be seen in the following categories:

Rosaceae family - apples, peach, plum
Berries - blackberry, cranberry
Fruits of Asian origin – kiwi
Fruits of North American origin - cocoplum, buffaloberry
Cacti –dragon fruit
Herbaceous annuals fruits – melons, strawberries
Mediterranean and subtropical fruits – grape, citrus, avocado, peanut, olive Tropical fruits – banana, papaya, pineapple

You see the list is endless and also the way in which you can prepare a fruit salad of these fruits has no limits. I usually just take the fruit that look nice in my local supermarket, chop them up and add a little bit of fruit juice.
