Big Girls You are Beautiful...

Have you heard Mika's latest song already? I was driving in my car yesterday when they played his single "Big girls you are beautiful" on my favourite radio station.

What a great song! It has a catchy tune and good rhythm that's for sure...but what I found most astonishing about it were its lyrics.

You won't believe it but this song is actually about big women like me. Being one of those I really liked the song and found the video to Mika’s song on YouTube. I was really happy to see that in his video he has all these women dancing that are definitely not zero size models, while still emphasizing their beauty.

This is the first time that I hear a pop song that is actually so positive about women that weigh more than the average women shown in media.

Mika said that he wrote that song because he had seen a documentary on the Butterfly Club, a size acceptance nightclub, and just thought that the beautiful big women there needed an anthem.

However, on the internet there are also many people who hate the song. They say that they feel offended by the lyrics and think that Mika is actually dissing big people.

I don’t feel assaulted by that lyrics at all. Of course the song is playing with the clichés that big women have to face (diet coke, pizza, etc), but overall I feel that the song praises the plus sized.

In an interview Mika said that his mother is big and so are many of his friends, so I don’t think that he would write such a song with bad intention. He also mentions that this song is just about being comfortable with who you are.

To me it says: whatever size you are, you are a beautiful woman and that is a wonderful message!

I looooove this song! Was happy to read that you are thinking so positively about it even though you are one of the big women that Mika sings about. I really like your blog too! Keep up the good work!

Mika is awesome! Have you

Mika is awesome! Have you ever seen him perform that song on stage? Needless to say the dancing lady seems to reflect his words... ;)
