Dieting Pill for Babies

I found an interesting article from the New York Times today. Scientists believe that obesity partly exists because of genetic predisposition and partly because of the wrong lifestyle (simply eating too much).
Now scientists want to start to fight obesity in the mother's womb already by influencing the hormones that a fetus receives - giving him a kind of diet pill already before the birth!

This sound interesting and scary to me at the same time!

On the one hand it would be nice if you could prevent genetic obesity like that. I know there are many theories, but I for myself have decided that there must be something like genetic predisposition concerning obesity. I know many people who have "inherited" their body volume from their parents. Of course children also adopt their parent's lifestyle, but I really believe that like some people have the same eyes or noses as their parents, others get their BMI :-)

On the other hand this sounds very science fiction to me. One scientist argued that treating a fetus in his mother's womb is not different from "giving a baby a vaccination" ->EXCUSE me! There IS a different.

At least for me! If we start with something like that, where will it end?

Feel free to share your thoughts on this topic!

Finally, thank you for the positive feedback I got on my page and the new design. That really encourages me a lot!

I posted some more diet program summaries, but there are more to come - so check back some time soon!

Yours,

genetic obesity

I think there is such thing as inherited obesity but it can be conquered.

Obesity

I agree that obesity is a factor of both nurture and nature - but being unhealthy because of obesity has nothing to do with genetics. I've seen enough research on pages like www.meddlinks.com, webmd.com, etc, on ways to overcome obesity that it is entirely within anyone's ability to fight obesity and be healthy. Dom

Interesting and scaring method of controlling obesity

Gaining weight might be gnetical. However, most of the time, it is for choosing wrong food, junk food, lack of exercising and eating way too much. I agree with you. This is a scary article... now invading a woman's womb to control obesity of the future baby? This is too much. A healthy lifestyle and good eating habits can keep a fit baby.
